Why Businesses Need Managed SOC Services

Security monitoring is easy to start and hard to sustain. As the estate grows and alert volume rises, the work of deciding what matters outpaces the people available to do it. These are the four points where that usually breaks down.

Alert Overload and False Positives

A security stack of any size produces more alerts than a small team can work through. When most of them turn out to be benign, the genuinely suspicious ones take longer to reach someone, and the habit of closing alerts quickly becomes the risk.

Shortage of Skilled Analysts

Experienced detection and response analysts are hard to hire and harder to keep. One or two people cannot cover nights, weekends and holidays, so monitoring quietly becomes business hours only at exactly the times attackers prefer.

Slow Investigation and Response

Investigation needs context from several tools at once. Without a defined triage path and someone whose job it is to follow it, the time between an alert firing and anyone deciding what it means stretches from minutes into days.

Limited Threat Visibility

Logs that are never collected cannot be searched. Gaps across cloud accounts, identity systems and third-party applications leave activity nobody can reconstruct later, which is usually discovered during an incident rather than before one.

Managed SOC Monitoring, Detection & Response Services

NetNXT monitors, investigates and manages security events as a defined managed service. What follows is what our team does, which operational problem each part addresses, and what you receive from it.

24/7 Security Monitoring

Our analysts monitor the security events in your agreed scope around the clock. What is covered depends on the data sources you can send us and the integrations in place, which we establish during onboarding rather than assume.

  • Continuous monitoring across the agreed scope
  • Endpoint, network, cloud, identity and application sources
  • Coverage defined by available data sources and integrations
  • Named analyst lead for your environment

SIEM and Threat Detection

We integrate with your SIEM, tune the correlation and detection rules against your environment, and have analysts review what those rules surface. The platform does the matching; a person decides what it means.

  • SIEM integration and log source onboarding
  • Event correlation across connected sources
  • Detection rule tuning for your environment
  • Analyst review of correlated alerts

User and Entity Behaviour Analytics

Behavioural analysis builds a picture of what normal looks like for your users and systems, then flags departures from it. An anomaly is a reason to look, not a confirmed incident, so each one is investigated before anything is escalated.

  • Baselines for user and system activity
  • Unusual access patterns surfaced for review
  • Indicators of compromised accounts
  • Suspicious privilege and permission changes

Incident Investigation and Response Support

Every alert is triaged, investigated and given a severity. From there we escalate to your named contacts, document what we found and support the response. What we execute directly and what needs your approval is agreed in the service scope before onboarding ends.

  • Alert triage and investigation
  • Severity assessment and escalation
  • Communication to your named contacts
  • Containment guidance, or execution where agreed
  • Incident documentation and post-incident reporting

Proactive Threat Hunting

Hunting looks for patterns and indicators that no rule was written for. It complements automated detection rather than replacing it, and runs as scheduled exercises against your environment under the agreed engagement.

  • Hypothesis-led hunts across collected telemetry
  • Indicators that did not trigger a conventional alert
  • Findings fed back into detection rules
  • Scope and frequency set by your engagement

Compliance and Security Reporting

Monitoring produces evidence. We turn it into incident records, monitoring reports and control evidence your internal governance and auditors can use. Reporting supports an audit; it does not by itself make an audit succeed.

  • Monthly monitoring and incident reporting
  • Evidence for SOC 2, ISO 27001 and HIPAA programmes
  • Incident records with timeline and analyst notes
  • Reporting shaped for IT and security leadership

How NetNXT's Managed SOC Works

Four stages, from onboarding through to continuous operation. Most clients reach production monitoring within two weeks, depending on how many log sources need onboarding and how readily they integrate.

  1. Deploy

    Onboarding and integration

    • Assess the environment and agree the monitoring scope
    • Integrate the SIEM and onboard log sources
    • Initial configuration and baseline profiling
    • Detection rules tuned to your environment
  2. Monitor

    Continuous operations

    • Continuous monitoring of in-scope events
    • Correlation across connected sources
    • Analyst triage and investigation
    • Threat intelligence enrichment where supported
  3. Respond

    Escalation and support

    • Severity-based escalation to named contacts
    • Communication through your agreed channels
    • Response initiation, and containment as contractually agreed
    • Incident documentation throughout
  4. Improve

    Ongoing tuning

    • Detection rule tuning as the estate changes
    • Threat hunting exercises
    • Monthly reporting and review
    • Lessons learned fed back into playbooks

What Your Business Gets from a Managed SOC

The operational difference a managed security operations function makes, separate from the list of what the service includes.

Monitoring beyond business hours

Security events are watched outside the window your own team can realistically cover, including nights, weekends and holidays.

Better visibility across your tools

Events from the security tooling you already run are brought together, so activity can be followed across systems instead of one console at a time.

Structured triage and investigation

Alerts follow a defined path to a decision, rather than depending on who happens to be free and how busy the week has been.

Clearer escalation and communication

You know who gets contacted, through which channel and at what severity, agreed before an incident rather than improvised during one.

Reporting leadership can use

Monthly monitoring and incident reporting gives IT and security leaders something concrete to take to the business and to auditors.

Security expertise without building a SOC

Access to analyst capability and operational process without hiring, training and retaining a full in-house security operations team.

75% faster incident response

Defined triage paths and prepared playbooks compress the time between an alert firing and a decision being made about it.

98% threat detection rate

Detection rules mapped to MITRE ATT&CK, reviewed by analysts, covering techniques that signature-based tooling alone does not catch.

24/7/365 analyst coverage

Analyst shifts across time zones, so monitoring does not stop at the end of your working day or over a holiday weekend.

Audit-ready evidence

Continuous evidence collection and control monitoring that supports SOC 2, ISO 27001 and HIPAA programmes.

Managed SOC in Practice

Continuous monitoring, evidence collection and reporting applied to a compliance programme with a hard deadline.

Case Study · Life Sciences, Healthcare & Biotechnology

SOC 2 Type 2 Compliance for a Life Sciences and Biotechnology Organisation

The organisation needed SOC 2 Type 2 compliance to satisfy enterprise customer requirements, protect sensitive research and patient data, and evidence its security controls across a cloud estate spanning research systems, clinical data environments and lab automation tools.

NetNXT rebuilt the governing policies, introduced controls that generate audit evidence as a by-product of normal operation, tightened segregation across research and clinical environments, and ran continuous monitoring and activity-level logging. The teams were trained on evidence procedures and incident workflows, and we supported the organisation through pre-audit validation and the audit itself.

Measured outcomes

  • 100% SOC 2 Type 2 readiness, with all required controls implemented and operational
  • 82% reduction in access violations and untracked data handling events
  • Change approval and incident workflows roughly 45% faster
  • Complete auditability through automated logging across critical systems and research environments

Frequently Asked Questions

Managed SOC services provide a security operations function as a managed service: continuous monitoring of your security events, triage of the alerts those events generate, investigation of anything suspicious, escalation to your team, and agreed support during incident response. Rather than building and staffing a security operations centre internally, you use an external team that already has the analysts, the process and the reporting in place. The exact scope, including what is monitored and what the provider may act on directly, depends on your environment and your service agreement.

Monitoring typically covers endpoint, network, identity, cloud and application security events. What is actually covered in your case depends on which data sources can be collected, which integrations are supported, and the scope agreed at onboarding. A managed SOC cannot monitor a system that does not send it logs, so part of the onboarding work is establishing which sources exist, which can be onboarded, and where the remaining gaps are, so those are known rather than assumed.

In most cases yes. We assess what you already run and integrate the supported tools where it is feasible, rather than asking you to replace a working stack. On the SIEM side this includes platforms such as Splunk, Microsoft Sentinel, IBM QRadar and Elastic. Which of your other security tools can be integrated depends on what they can export and how, which the onboarding assessment establishes before the service goes live.

Managed SOC describes the security operations function itself: continuous monitoring, alert triage, investigation, escalation and reporting across your environment. MDR generally places more emphasis on managed detection and response action, with the provider taking a more direct role in responding to confirmed threats. The two overlap considerably, and the meaningful difference is less the label than what the agreement says the provider will do when something is found. Our Managed Detection & Response service page sets out that scope in more detail.

Onboarding is a structured process covering log source integration, SIEM configuration, baseline profiling of your environment and detection rule tuning. Most clients reach production monitoring within two weeks, though that depends on how many sources need onboarding and how readily they can be integrated. During an incident, the alert is triaged and investigated, a severity is assigned, your named contacts are notified through the channels agreed at onboarding, and we support the response, documenting the timeline and analyst findings throughout. What we execute directly as opposed to what requires your approval is set out in your service scope.
